Boker Plus Titan:"Titanium Elegance for $40" by Nutnfancy

Titanium classic drop point folder for $40, maybe less. Yeah it caught my attention too. Boker knives span all kinds of value lines and they have many great blades. But this one jumped out of the catalog: full flat ground 440C drop point blade, bead blasted grey titanium lockback design, tip-up carry. In hand it does not fail to impress. The satin finished 3 3/4" blade is well suited for food preparation and other utility tasks that cry out for your daily carry blade. Speed for a lockback is unusually fast and the lockup is secure and without fault. Phosphor bronze bushings reside inside. The titanium handle is chamfered on the edges, it does not seem to occlude the thumbstud, and there's a lanyard hole. Blade centering is also perfect. Yes it lacks jimping but some might contend it would ruin the beautiful lines of this handsome folder. Ergonomics are good for the category but perhaps not outstanding (thumb stud is ambi, well-designed). I would not place the knife into a tactical POU on purpose. But the Plus Titan's slimness is a standout quality that enables its 4.2 oz weight to carry unobtrusively and comfortably. This a blade you will forget about until you need it. The pocket clip is well designed, polished, and you have your choice of left/right carry. Overall presentation is outstanding on this high value blade and it is definitely worth the money. A detectable downside is that this Boker 440C steel seems to take a razor edge reluctantly, even with careful ...

Bark River STS-5 Wilderness Knife Modifications for Snow Camping - Cocobolo Scales

The Bark River STS-5 is a tactical/fighting knife primarily. I'm planning on using it as a stainless steel (154CM steel) wilderness knife for snow camping. Everything gets wet no matter how you try to keep it dry. 1095 carbon might be a better choice, but I worry about rust. The scales are designed for fighting so I created a wilderness/survival/bushcraft version in cocobolo. I won't be snow camping for a couple of months but in the Fall, I expect backpacking in the rain may happen a few times. I also show a few items in my snow camping kit. I expect the Bark River STS-5 will do just fine in this role.

Lone Wolf T2 Tactical: "Home Run Tactical" by Nutnfancy

This is one of your best options for an all-around mid-sized tactical folder. As of mid-2008 Lone Wolf T2 came in a variety of handle types including Cocobolo, FRN, and green/black Micarta (cool). The T2 is also offered in a sabre ground blade though I much prefer this drop point version. And its this version that gets just about everything right: great S30V steel, excellent 3.9" blade shape with full-flat grind, ergonomic, good stipling on FRN handle,strong and solid lockup, functional jimping, and a wicked fast and smooth deployment (bronze phosphor bushings). Also it's 4.2 oz weight is excellent for its size (although it could and should be improved by skeletonizing the liners). Moreover the T2 by Bill Harsey arrives razor sharp. About the only strike on this ballgame would be the overly large and pivot-mounted clip. It's definitely strong enough but should be reversible and much more streamlined (reference Benchmade designs). In the video I show the limited edition Desert Camo T2 (no you can't have it), the gorgeous Cocobolo wood, and standard FRN versions. This strong and fast tactical folder in terms of quality, design, speed, and strength can take on all comers. It's a homerun run. ////////////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9.5 out of 10
