SigTac Rangemaster knife in OD

Preliminary review: This is kind of a hard knife to find. But it's surprisingly good. It has a clip "AK47-type" blade that's 3.5 inches with an overall length of 8 inches. The N690 Cobalt Vanadium blade is sharp and strong, handle is light and comfortable, the lockup is tight, and the quality is excellent. This N690 steel is an Austrian made stainless steel, which is comparable to 440C. Deployment speed is good. A couple of downsides would be the pivot mounted carry clip that does not reverse (for tip up) and the skeletonized handle can pack in debris like mud. However for its modest cost of around $100 it's a reasonable buy and nice knife to round out a good tactical collection. ** Thanks to Skaggs Police Supply who provided the location and knife for the making of this video!

Spyderco Tenacious: "Hanging Tough Value" by Nutnfancy

It's pretty much unbelievable to me that this knife, brand new, cost me only $28. Here's a compact tactical and EDC blade that features textured G10 handles, skeletonized SS liners, strong liner lock (from all appearances), functional jimping on both the top and bottom (!), good 4 corner clip, strong lockup, and super fast deployment riding on phosphor bronze bushings. The feel is solid, balance is good, the deployment is rapid (thanks to the phosphor bronze bushing), and the lockup is flawless on the Tenacious. The full flat ground 8Cr13MoV blade (like AUS8) is beautifully finished and I think will handle most cutting tasks very well (it is on the wide side however). Like Japanese-made AUS8 steel, 8Cr13MoV is a high carbon (.8%) stainlees steel that is balances corrosion resistance, edge holding, toughness, and ease of sharpening well. Expect good but not excellent rust resistance from this steel. The one downside I can detect is insufficient in-handle retention caused by a weak detent. But thats about it. Intially I had discounted this blade as being too heavy and therefoer I wasn't interested. I was wrong. This is an outstanding, EXTREMELY HIGH VALUE blade that I suspect can pretty much handle whatever you throw at it. This knife offers amazing value (like a more affordable Spyderco Caly3). /////////////////////////// Nutnfancy Likeability Scale for Spyderco Tenacious: 8 of 10 (price considered)

SOG Daggert 2: Special Purpose Professional

The SOG Daggert series are strong and well-made daggers. Featuring a 6.6 AUS8 blade, the Daggert 2 (shown) provides good reach for life or death CQB. The handle follows Fairbairn-Sykes weighting which biases towards the grip (for better theoretical hand retention). The Daggert 1 is a smaller version wearing a 5.7 blade and is a little bit lighter (8 oz vs 9.6 oz, blades only). The blade has a somewhat narrow profile and as such has trouble achieving a razor sharp edge within its short width due to the steep angles. involved (may be improved with skillful sharpening). A short but unneeded section of serration rides on the top. With its gradual tip geometry, the Daggert should excel in its limited use role as a thrusting weapon. Other upsides include: pommel hammering capabilities, excellent shaped stainless double guard, grippy Kraton handle is roomy for different grips, and good looking grey spacers in handle. The Kydex sheath is excellent and has an improved Hypalon retention strap. It also uses the American Sportsman brand QD attachment which spaces the knife away from your carry platform. The Daggert 2 offers only medium-level value as its pricetag hovers around the $100 mark. As of 2009, it is offered in several cool colorations including matte black, beadblasted grey, or tigerstripe (subject to change of course). For me, a dagger is a limited purpose knife with a narrow POU but within that limited function, a knife like the Daggert 2 could offer a life saving ...

Rat Cutlery RC-5 Update w/new Sheath

Just returned from a trip from Arizona where I had a chance to test the capabilities of this knife. The micarta panels were very comfortable for all day use. The knife keeps its edge very well and was easy to sharpen. The coating on the blade was very durable and did not even blemish with moderate use. The new Kydex sheath I purchased from www.Knifeworks.com for $40 shipped. Overall I am extremely happy with the purchase of the knife and kydex sheath and I am sure this will be used for many years to come.

Benchmade 890 Torrent: Tournament Level EDC'er

You will love it, the wife will hate it (well most wives). In 2009, Benchmade has issued several intriguing designs that should awaken many of its fans to spend yet again more money on their knife passion...again disconcerting many spouses. But the tractor beam of Benchmade is pulling hard in 2009. Example: The Model 890 is a beautiful US-made knife featuring smooth, matte finished G10 scales that provide contrast against the stonewashed finished 154CM blade. The Steigerwalt-designed blade has a strong tip, good belly, an atractive unsharpened top swedge, and razor sharpness that terminates out of a 3/4 flat grind. Its 3.6" length could provide adequate reach in emergency defensive use and has plenty of strength. What it doesn't have is jimping on the short run of flat spine topside, a perplexing miss. That, coupled with the slick scales, absolutely no thumb ramp, and a shallow finger guard, might make a thrust attack with the 890 non-optimal. But its triangular pommel can deliver some devasting impacts both in the closed and open position and is a outstanding feature. The 3.6 oz weight is light for the cutting performance achieved but may have been a little lighter had the liners been skeletonized. Other upsides include: loop-shaped clip carries the knife deep, authoratative and fast "Nitrous" assisted opening, rock solid lockup, beveled G10 slot for deployment access, flow thru construction, ergonomic handle shape (fits hand well), and superb quality. One more downsided ...

COLD STEEL PUSH DAGGERS: TERMINATOR/SAFE KEEPER II...

Cold Steel: www.coldsteel.com Cold Steel push daggers...the one I got in the early 90's was called a Cold Steel Terminator. I guess in the age of politically correctiveness they had to change the name to Safe-Keeper. And along those lines the current ones are named Safe-Maker. No matter what their called I gonna use mine to gut open the scumbag(s) trying to hurt me or mine...lol! Benchmade AutoPresidio 5000: Ft Knox Tactical Auto

Sometimes you just want an auto. And maybe you want a STRONG, well-balanced tactical auto that will never let you down. Then maybe you're ready to spring for a Benchmade AutoPresidio (Auto Axis) Model 5000. No it isn't cheap at around $200 (at least for mine) but quality autos never are. But at any price you will be hard pressed to find a stronger better made tactical auto. With its 7000 series sculpted aluminum scales over skeletonized SS liners, you will have all the strength you could reasonably expect from a folding knife. Couple with its reasonably fast deployment, Ft Knox lockup, reliable Axis lock, a perfect carry clip (all in black), and a nicely shaped drop point 154CM blade, the 5000 is an exciting auto. It is a little heavier at 5.6 oz but if that's not a factor for you then it definitely is a wise choice and one that should last a lifetime. (These colored models were limited editions. 2008 AutoPresidios generally come in satin or black finished blades.) 15 US 1244 (2-4): "Switchblade knives can be shipped by common carrier, that sale, transportation or distribution, possession or introduction into interstate commerce of switchblade knives is authorized if it is pursuant to a contract with the armed forces or any member or employee thereof acting in the performance of his or her duty may possess switchblade knives and may have them shipped and sold to him or her."
